I'm Ben, a Programmer & Game Dev

Hi i'm Ben! a mission design engineer currently working at Spliced inc.

Over the past few years, I've worked on improving my skills with various programs and languages. I have become comfortable navigating and using software such as game engines (Unity/Unreal), 3D modelling programs (Blender/Maya), Version control (Github/Perfore), jira, confluence, and many more. Utilizing these skills, I have created many small experimental projects and a couple of bigger team-based games. During this time, I've discovered a keen interest in Design and procedural generation and creating highly replayable systems

At Spliced I've been able to further expand on many of my skills, primarily the use of Unreal Engine and AngelScript. I've also been able to develop my communication skills by working as part of a much larger team and interacting with other departments on a daily basis, broadening my skills and understanding across multiple disciplines

2022 - 2023

Falmouth Launchpad Program

Falmouth University

The launchpad has allowed me to hone my skills as a developer. I have learnt to research and present my ideas to my team and investors, received training on estimation, budgeting and advanced agile/scrum methodologies, and improved my ability to adapt to challenges and learn new things. I have also been able to start a studio creating our first commercial product, Ultravile.

BSc (Hons) Computing for Games

Falmouth University

Falmouth allowed me to focus on my developer skills, helping me learn more advanced skills through practical assignments. Here, I learnt version control, agile, improved interdisciplinary communications skills, and new languages such as C++ and HTML.

Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Media

Boomsatsuma College

Boomsatsuma allowed me to work in larger teams to create various products using various tools. Here, I learnt many of my 3D skills and discovered my love for creating games and programming, primarily in C# with Unity.

At Spliced I am responsible for designing, protoyping and implimenting missions. I do this using a mix of Blueprints and AngelScript inside of Unreal Engine. I have also been able to expand many skills within a large team such as communication within and between departments, documentation of my code as well as design docs and self discipline by adhearing to deadlines and efficiently working from home

I'm responsible for making sure the company runs smoothly. This role has helped me to increase my teamwork and communication skills through meetings. It has also helped me with planning and pitching ideas, and this has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of marketing as well as the business side of studios

Lead Programmer

This role has allowed me to advance my Unreal Engine and C++ knowledge while also ensuring I practice creating clean, efficient code to be used by others. I've also worked on my agile and scrum skills by meeting sprint deadlines and helping prevent over-scoping. Another skill I gained loads of experience in was communicating across disciplines, mainly by creating tools for designers and artists as well as regular meetings to discuss development.
